Delivery of the special trolley bridge cranes for the project “Development and Prototype Delivery of Hot Cells for the Jules Horowitz Reactor, France (Cadarache)” implies a set of equipment allowing the materials and experimental items to be transferred from/to the reactor, material decontamination and maintenance. Rarity of these cranes is that their trolleys can drive out of the big cell, pass through the small cell into the transfer spaces of SAS, and go back complete with a load. Moreover, two types of crane crabs are interchangeable. As aforementioned, the set of equipment consists of trolley cranes of three types. Big cell (BC) cranes, small cell (SC) cranes, and transfer (SAS) cranes. Beside the said cranes, the set moreover contains a mechanical and electrical bushing, which is a part of the BC cranes, further a handling rod used to push forward and lower a BC trolley load and lifting cart with which that crabs are extended and retracted in the SAS transfers.

The big cell cranes are attached to the anchor plates on the ceiling of the big cells, consisting of the crane track, crane bridge, power supply cart, crane crab, and fixed rail being in the space around the sliding-door frame. The power supply cart is energized through an electric bushing and the crane bridge drive through a mechanical bushing. Besides the crane’s main purpose (to handle loads in the BC) the crane allows the crab to be carried out of the big cell. To do this action, you must first get connected with the SC crab.


 The small cell cranes are attached to the anchor plates on the ceiling of the small cells, consisting of the crane track, crane bridge, cart with turntable and beam, and crane crab. Main purpose of the cranes is to operate the small cell; 1-ton crane crab is used to meet the purpose. Another role of SC cranes is to transport the crabs that may bear loads from the big cells into the transfers through the small cell. This is why the crane crabs are equipped with the joining elements that allow the cranes to be taken out from the big cell and into the transfers. To this end the crane is equipped with a beamed turntable, allowing the crane to connect the individual crab moving transfers. The beamed turntable has an extended cantilever with which it will overcome the doorframes to get itself connected to the fixed rail. In the transfer piece, it gets directly connected to the crane cantilever.


Transfer cranes are attached to the anchor plates on the ceiling in the transfers, consisting of the crane track, crane bridge, and beam-equipped cart. The transfer cranes have their own crane crab, knowing – nevertheless – how to receive the crane crab from the neighbouring small cell. Unlike other cranes, the axes of the bridge travel tracks and of the beam-equipped bridge are moved around by 90°. Transfers are there to allow for replacement of the crabs and/or maintenance of the heavy manipulator, which is transported by means of the 1.7-ton maintenance trolley. Other pieces of equipment, such as hand-operated lifting device, can also be suspended from the beam. A structure on which the crabs are stored is to be connected to the beam whenever a crab has to be replaced. This is achieved by means of the lifting cart.
